The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the lives and habits of young people. Restricted social contact and limited physical activity led to increased depression, stress and unstable mental health. Young people, trapped in a world of cell phones, social media and isolation at home, faced the great challenge of dealing with limited social interactions. Reports analyzing the mental health of youth during the pandemic are alarming. According to a survey by UNICEF in October 2021 (“On My Mind”), it will be an enormous challenge for young people to return to normality – this requires a lot of time and work.
This is exactly where the “Youth Mental Health Matters” project comes in. During an 8-day exchange, young people from 7 EU countries will share knowledge, practices and ideas to protect mental health and promote general well-being. Through sports and educational activities, mechanisms for healthy living, healthy eating and increased physical activity will be taught. Young people need support and additional training to deal with depression, stress and instability. This project provides them with the necessary tools and strategies to strengthen their mental and physical health.
